The dStudio services as explained below have emerged in response to the ever increasing demand for heirloom photo restoration, vintage document reproduction and archiving, fine art giclée prints, and art works photography. If you're not sure how your needs for document, photo or fine art imaging fit our services, give us a call or send an email and we'll determine just how our skills can meet your needs.
HOW WE WORK
The simplest explanation of our process is summed up as "Capture, Process and Print."
This means, first, we capture an image of the original (from film negatives and slides, a print, an original work of art) using digital scanning or high resolution photographic equipment. This page further discusses scanning.
Second, the captured image, in the form of a digital computer file, is processed to make a printable file. This entails steps such as repair work of old photos and documents, color adjusting to match the digital image to an original art work, special effects such as colorizing an heirloom photo or photo postcard, and numerous other tasks to achieve the desired end-result. Within this realm, the sky's the limit. This is where our artistry and magic happen!
Third, the now printable file is printed utilizing any of several technologies, archival inkjet being the most common, however traditional photo lab services, offset printing and high-end color laser printing providers also are used. Finished files are also "repurposed" for use on the web.
In addition to the technology incorporated, we apply an "artist's eye" to the work. It's this step that separates those whose results are a technological solution from those whose results are both technological and artistic. dStudio prides itself in bringing artistic accomplishment to the end-result. Review our portfolio, it speaks for itself.
PRICING
Our pricing structure is rather simple. Capture and processing is charged at an hourly rate of $65. Printing by archival inkjet methods typically is priced by the square foot, ranging from $6/sf to $16/sf, depending on material and quantity. Printing by other methods is quoted.
MATERIALS AND FINISHING
Within the inkjet realm, we typically print matte papers and canvas, optionally lustre or gloss. Canvas prints are hand varnished from matte to high-gloss. Texturing mediums for a "painting look" are also offered. Finishing work such as canvas stretching and dry-mounting are provided. On applicable projects, we help you make decisions that will ensure our end-result will work artistically and cost-efficiently with final picture framing needs.
PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES
We photograph art, 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional, from unglazed ceramic to high-sheen glass, to framed and unframed paintings. Photographs can be made for the purpose of creating giclée prints, to build printed portfolios or sales literature, support web sites, to convert to traditional film slides for competition submissions, insurance records, or for basic prints to show to a prospective buyer. With our high-end digital approach, one file, when shot appropriately, can serve all purposes.
If you need special effects or custom file editing, we are Photoshop® experts. We will make your images dazzle!
